Dear Van Allen families,
Here are some important things to keep in mind with regards to illness once school begins under the new reopening plan.  If your child has any COVID symptoms that are not related to a chronic condition such as asthma or allergies, they must stay home, no exceptions.  If children come to school with any COVID symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, nausea, diarrhea, etc.) , they will be sent home and will need to fulfill one of the following conditions in order to return: 
 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared (no fever, no cough, etc) OR 
 Negative COVID test AND 4 days of improvement in symptoms OR 
Obtain a medical professional’s note clearing student for return based on an alternative diagnosis.  
If a student has COVID symptoms and is being kept home, siblings should likewise be kept home until it is determined that it is safe for them to return to school.  Both the symptomatic student and siblings will be able to access distance learning from their classroom teacher for the duration of the time that they will remain at home.    
Our goal is to halt the transmission of this disease in the school setting so that our schools can remain open.  We will need your help and cooperation throughout this time to ensure that everyone remains as healthy as possible.  Please understand that our current process is based on an abundance of caution.
